Then, we visit outside the city 4 archaeological zones: The impressive Sacsayhuaman Fortress, strategically built on a hill overlooking the city of Cusco, famous for its huge carved stones, some of them standing more than 9 m/30 ft high and weighing more than 350 tons, Kenko, Puca Pucara y Tambomachay.

Itinerary

The tour starts with the pick up from your hotel. We visit the main streets and places of the city of Cusco and surroundings. The tour begins in the heart of Cusco, we visit inside the Cathedral, next to the Cathedral is the Church of the Society of Jesus, one of the most beautiful baroque churches in the country, the Temple of the Sun Qoricancha - Santo Domingo, and then go out to the surroundings to visit the archaeological complex of Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Pucapucara and finally Tambomachay.

Attractions

La Catedral: It was built between the years 1550 to 1650, on the Inca foundations of the great Palace of Wiraqocha, Eighth Ruler of the Inka civilization.

The most representative is the painting of the Last Supper, by the painter Marcos Zapata, showing Jesus Christ and his twelve apostles, highlighting on the table "EL CUY" (guinea pig) typical dish in the festivities of Cusco.

One of its ten chapels belongs to the Lord of the Tremors, Sworn Patron and Protector of Cusco, the vast majority of them carved in Cedar, with silver and gilded with 22 carat gold leaf made in the Colonial era.

Qorikancha: The first temple built by the Inka culture, at the beginning of the 13th century in memory of the Sun God.

In the government of PACHAKUTEQ (Transformer of the World). In the middle of the XV century it was decorated from the floor, the wall, and the ceiling, with sheets of gold and silver. Qorikancha was the center of the Inka Universe, very important from the point of view; Religious, Political, Economic, Cultural and Administrative.

Here was kept the most valuable of the Inka Civilization, even had a SOLAR GARDEN, showing the Flora and Fauna, all these elements made in gold in natural size (corn, potatoes, quinoa etc., and snakes, pumas, condors, llamas, alpacas, vicuñas). Also enclosures dedicated to minor gods such as the Moon Goddess (Mama Killa), the Stars (Ch'aska), the Lightning (Illapa) and the Rainbow (K'uychi).

Sacsayhuaman: Religious place, considered as the ceremonial temple.

Etymology: "Victor Angles Vargas", is the marbled head of the PUMA.

In the XVI century, the city of Cusco had the shape of a PUMA. The impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman is strategically built on a hill from where you can see all of Cusco. It is famous for its enormous carved stones, some of which are 9 meters or 30 feet high and weigh more than 350 tons.

Q`enqo: The archaeological site is divided into Q'enqo Grande and Q'enqo Chico.

Etymologically, it means labyrinth or zigzag, it fulfilled a purely religious function, being found in the exterior part an amphitheater in semicircular form with trapezoidal niches and a monolith that simulates to be a puma which is approximately six meters high.

Pukapukara: Pukapukara means "red fortress", because the calcareous stones with which it is built have acquired the reddish color of the soil, very abundant in iron. It is argued that it had the function of guarding Tambomachay, an important palace in the Inca period. But at the same time, due to its architectural layout and the existence of fountains, aqueducts and multiple enclosures, it was a "tambo" that is to say, a collective shelter that offered lodging and food to travelers, as well as to the retinue that was to accompany the Inka in his retreat in Tambomachay.

Tambomachay: It is an archaeological site that was destined to the cult of water, as well as for the Capac Inca to rest.

This place is also called Baños del Inca (Inca Baths). It consists of a series of aqueducts, canals and several waterfalls that run through the rocks.

The surprising thing: the Incas created 2 secondary waterfalls of a main one, which are exactly the same. That is, if one places two empty bottles, one in each waterfall, both are filled at the same time.
